It's not over yet!  In what seems like a never-ending cycle of bridge work and inspections over the last ten years here in the Twin Ports comes this news:  Minnesota Department of Transportation workers will be performing their annual inspection of the Blatnik Bridge.  The first day on the schedule is this Saturday, October 3.

Year Number Two of the work on the Bong Bridge commences Monday, April 13 as the eastbound or Superior-bound lanes close to traffic until November 2015.  When it's finished, the work will represent a total rebuild of the deck - something that has never occurred since the bridge first opened to traffic in 1984.  It will also see the new roundabout as a fully-functioning intersection.

It's been a long summer of detours and perhaps no other project has snarled traffic more in the summer of 2014 than the Bong Bridge project.  As part of the two-year project, work will continue right up until the beginning of November.  At that point, it will pause for the winter - only to begin again in the spring of 2015.

The two-year Bong Bridge project kicked off just a little under a month ago.  So what's been going on? A quick drive to the barricades shows that the work crews have been busy removing the roadway that leads up to the bridge on the Wisconsin side.  Wisconsin Department of Transportantion also informs us that they have been removing bridge deck joints.  A subcontractor has also been performing work
