The work of the St. Louis County Rescue Squad often gets overlooked even though it serves a vital service to our area.  A recent award from a national agency looks to change  that.

The U.S. Forest Service recently awarded the emergency squad their Enduring Service Award.  During a recent County Board meeting, the citation was awarded to the squad - which is comprised of approximately 60 volunteer members;  in addition, Rescue Squad Lieutenant Kurt Erickson received accommodation for his service.

The St. Louis County Rescue Squad has been in existence since 1958, providing more than 20,000 hours of annual service in times of need.

The Enduring Service Award has only been given out by the U.S. Forest Service twice in the past five years.
