A familiar source of footwear - and one of the largest shoe store chains in America - is looking at restructuring their debt under bankruptcy protection.  The move would also see Payless ShoeSource close up to 500 of their smaller stores throughout the country in an effort to reduce overhead.

Payless operates more than 4,000 stores and has been around since the mid-1950's.

It's unclear at this point how - or if - the move would affect the two Payless locations in the Twin Ports;  the chain operates a full size store in the Miller Hill Mall and also operates the shoe department inside of Shopko.
