Barrett Strong wrote and played on the original Money (thats what I want) back in 1960 on Berry Gordy's Anna record label. The song did well, and charted at # 23 in the top 40 charts. Over the years, it has been used in many commercials, has had thousands upon thousands of radio station airplays, and has been used in movies. The song has generated millions of dollars in royalties, yet Barrett Strong never received one penny for his efforts. Why?

In an article published in the NY Times, you might find the answer, or at least part of it. His is not a one of a kind story, it has been repeated hundreds of times by songwriters, and recording artists as well. Times were different back in the 50's and 60's, I'll give you that. The recording industry of r&r, was in it's infancy, and did have it's growing pains over the years. The sad part about it, and this story, is nothing is done about it.
