‘Final’ Days For Levon Helm Of The Band

Whenever I think of Levon, I of course think of The Band. I believe they still hold the record of the longest continually touring band, seven years. Robby Robertson and Levon shared many of the vocals in the group, which was unusual in that we seldom see a drummer doing lead vocals. His contribution and great humor will be missed.

Legendary drummer Levon Helm is playing his last song.

“Levon is in the final stages of his battle with cancer,” his family disclosed yesterday on www.levonhelm.com. “Please send your prayers and love to him as he makes his way through this part of his journey.”

The 71-year-old drummer and vocalist with The Band was diagnosed with throat cancer in the 1990s, but his fans didn’t know the musician was fighting the disease again until the post on his website.
