The Duluth Police department is alerting Northlanders to be cautious of notifications they get on their smartphone in regards to their bank account(s).  Scammers are targeting would-be victims with a Wells Fargo account alert;  Users who receive the notification are asked to follow a link.  The link leaves the user open to malware which could be used to gain access or control of your financial accounts.

As always, electronics users are reminded to be diligent with their devices.  Whether it's an email, text message, or a phone call - always be alert and never give out personal information.  Financial institutions usually never reach out to customers in an unsolicited fashion.  If you receive such a message, the best advice is to ignore the digital component and then call the bank in question and ask to speak to a representative.  If the message were to be legit, you would be able (and well within your rights) to confirm the validity of it and the identity of the person you are speaking to before giving out important information.
