It's not unheard of - but - it also doesn't happen very often.  A Carlton County couple welcomed their new baby girl in their vehicle this past Friday while they were on the way to the hospital.

During the early morning hours of March 27, the Carlton County Dispatch received a call from Justin Jahr of Carlton - who was en route to the hospital with his pregnant wife.  She was in labor and he requested an ambulance to meet them.  However, labor progressed quickly and they had to stop their vehicle at the intersection of County Road 3 and County Road 101.  At the scene, they were joined by members of the Carlton Ambulance.  A few minutes later, Justin - who is a firefighter with the Cloquet Area Fire District - helped deliver the baby girl in  the back of their vehicle.

Baby, mom, and dad were transported by ambulance to St. Mary's in Duluth.
