Drivers who take the Blatnik Bridge to Duluth from Superior will have to use an alternative route this summer.  The scheduled closure of the northbound lanes is happening May 14th.

Department Of Transportation officials have elected to close the northbound lanes while work to extend the life of the bridge is carried out.  Southbound lanes - that carry traffic to Superior from Duluth - will remain open at this time.

The project is advance work being done on the Blatnik Bridge in anticipation of the two year project on the Bong Bridge that starts in 2013.

Motorists are directed to use the Bong Bridge (Highway 2) as a detour to get them from Superior to Duluth while the lanes are closed.

Estimated completion date for the Blatnik Bridge project is mid-summer.
