With our first Winter Storm Warning upon us, some people are either looking forward to the snow or dreading its arrival.  It may appear that this is early for a sizable snow storm - or is it?

The answer to the question depends on (A) what you call early and (B) what you call sizable.

According to the National Weather Services office located in Duluth, the earliest sizable snowstorm on record occurred on September 18, 1991.  It should be noted that that was the same winter that brought us the Halloween Mega Storm a month and a half later.

The weather service says that on average we have 3.5 winter storms in an average winter, based on accumulated date over the last 35 years.
