What Is The Brainerd Diarrhea? Minnesota Town Gives Name To Actual Medical Condition

A quick list of the things Brainerd, Minnesota has given us would include Babe Winkelman, the Brainerd International Raceway, famous resorts, even Paul Bunyan (unless you buy into the debate as to where the fictional Paul Bunyan actually hails from).  But did you know that Brainerd, Minnesota also gave it's name to a medical condition?

The Brainerd Diarrhea was first noted in 1983.  Symptoms of this unpleasant condition include a sudden onset of diarrhea (3 or more loose stools each day) that doesn't subside with the usual prescription of antibiotics.  There is no known cause and no substantiated cure.

What's most telling about this affliction is that it's stubborn.  That same stubbornness is something that most Northlanders (and Brainerdites) are often accused of.
