There is no poop fairy. You may have seen the commercials on local TV, but apparently some dog owners are still not picking up after their pets. Volunteers from Harbor City International School recently picked up dog waste from Hawk Ridge Bird Observatory. How much did they collect? An astonishing amount! The City Of Duluth says they picked up over 200 gallons. That equates to about 50 pounds of dog poop. Thanks to these students for doing this work. It's obviously not a very fun job.

We got a rescue puppy last year right before the pandemic, and I learned to pick up dog poop and do it the right way. With a little practice, it's really not a big deal. We have a dog leash that has a poop bag attached to it, so you never forget your baggies. If you're going to own a dog, be a responsible owner.

The Environmental Protection Agency actually says that dog waste is just as bad for the environment as insecticides according to doodycalls.com. The average dog produces 3/4 of a pound of waste each day. Add that up to an estimated 77 million dogs in the United States and that's a lot of dog poop! When the dog poop breaks down it enters our local rivers, streams, creeks, and lakes. That pollutes our water supply.
