Work crews with Superior Water Light and Power are working to correct a water main break that occurred underneath the roadway of U.S. Highway 53 in Superior - between 18th and 9th Avenues East.  Traffic will be reduced to two lanes to accommodate the restoration.  Traffic is being diverted to the two southbound lanes, with one temporary lane for each direction of vehicles.

The repairs started on Tuesday, May 8 and officials with Superior Water Light and Power anticipate the project to be complete by Thursday, May 19 around mid-day - unless the weather doesn't cooperate.

In addition to the lane restrictions, large trucks are not being allowed to use Highway 53 in that area.  A detour has been established that takes the trucks off of Highway 53 onto 23rd Avenue East and East 5th Street, to get back on the Truck Route at 18th Avenue East.

As far as water service goes, a handful of Superior Water Light and Power customers are without their water utility until the repairs can be made.
