NFL Network reporter Tom Pelissero is reporting via Twitter that the Minnesota Vikings have waived rookie kicker Daniel Carlson after missing all three of his field goal attempts in Sunday's game against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field.

The three missed kicks played a role in the 29-29 tie in which the week two matchup between the two NFC North teams ended.

Speculation on who the Vikings could pick up started on social media yesterday as Carlson's (lack of) performance continued to sink in among fans. Bringing back Kai Forbath was one of the two names floated by fans, while the other was former Cowboys kicker Dan Bailey. Ian Rapoport is reporting that the Vikings are expected to bring in Bailey.

On Sunday, Pro Football Talk reported that Bailey has turned down four "very good offers", looking for "the right team. One would speculate that the "right team" would include a Super Bowl contender, preferably playing their home games indoors. These criteria put the Vikings in a great theoretical position to land Bailey, which appears to have come true.

Bailey was cut by the Cowboys during the 2018 preseason, serving as one of the most accurate kickers in NFL history during his time with Dallas. The 30 year old kicker suffered a groin injury in the 2017 season, leading to him to miss four games last year and NFL.com reports that his accuracy suffered some upon his return last year.

Subsequent talking points from the Cowboys note the fact that Bailey brought a significant (for a kicker) hit to the salary cap, with the team loosening up $3.4 million with his release. Team owner Jerry Jones explained in an interview that they were comfortable with their younger (and less expensive) kicker due to both performing on about the same level, which gave the Cowboys with the opportunity to shed a more expensive player by cutting Bailey.

Bailey will join the team and begin preparations for the Vikings' week 3 game against the Buffalo Bills.
