Good news for graduates of Class of 2022 at the University of Wisconsin-Superior:  The commencement ceremony coming up on Saturday, May 14 will mark the return to a traditional in-person graduation event after a two year absence.  Similar to many schools and universities across the country, in-person commencements at the education facility went to virtual methods with the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic.

At the May 14 commencement, the university is expected to deliver diplomas to nearly 700 students in a wide variety of degrees and educational majors.

In addition to the return to a traditional in-person graduation event, the commencement also holds additional significance for the University of Wisconsin-Superior.  At the spring 2022 commencement, UW-Superior "will confirm its largest number of bachelor degrees in more than five years and its largest number of master's degrees in over 20 years".

Graduates who have earned associate, bachelor's, and master's degrees have been invited to take party.  The student grouping will represent those graduating Fall 2021, Spring 2022, and Summer 2022.

Foote, the President and Chief Executive Officer of CSX.  The 2022 Student Speaker will be Jessica Gidagaakoons Smith, a Bachelor of Science degree candidate; according to advance details shared by the university, Smith is a legal studies major with a minor in First Nation studies.

The Chancellor's Leadership Award will be presented to GrantGading, Jordyn O'Brien, and the aforementioned Jessica Gidagaakoons Smith.  This award is given to members of the graduating class who are committed to personal growth and who have made a positive contribution to their peers, campus, and community.

While the commencement on May 14 is a return to in-person festivities, the University of Wisconsin-Superior will also continue to provide a virtual means of watching.  A live video feed will be made available on the day of the event.

In-person attendees should be at Siinto S. Wessman Arena: 2701 Catlin Avenue in Superior.  The commencement starts at 2:00 PM.
