USDA Issues Ground Beef Recall Notice
It's been a busy season for food-related issues. Following closely on the heels of the Romaine lettuce E. coli situartion (which was never a recall notice), the United States Department of Agriculture has issued a recall notice on specific ground beef products. (It's also worth noting that this new recall is really classified by the USDA as an expansion of an earlier notice that was put out in October 2018).
According to the USDA's website, JBS Tolleson, Inc is recalling more than 12-million pounds of "non-intact" (ground) beef product. Salmonella is the concern here with 246 confirmed cases in 25 different states. A variety of product labels are included - but each of them contains the establishment number “EST. 267” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to a retail locations and institutions nationwide.
A quick glance at the complete listing of involved products doesn't show any obvious local retail sources (most appear to be Kroger in-store brands); but it never hurts to check your refrigerator or freezer. Click here for scans of the product labels.
