Traffic Advisories For Superior 4th Of July Events
The City of Superior has a long standing tradition of celebrating Independence Day-4th of July. This year will be no different.
Organizers have a full slate of activities planned - including the perennial car show, parade, and fireworks. And with things getting a little bit more back to normal, officials are anticipating a large number of people taking part in the festivities.
In order to accommodate these events, a variety of different road closures will be necessary. These closures will be marked, but might catch some people by surprise if they're not expecting them.
In advance of Monday July 4, the Superior Police Department has issued a Traffic Advisory to cover the Independence Day activities. Here are the details:
- 10:30 AM to 1:00 PM: Belknap Street will be closed from Pine Avenue to Tower Avenue. This closure is mandated in order to host the 4th of July Parade organized this year by Sterling Silver Dance Studio.
- 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM: Tower Avenue will be closed from Belknap Street to Broadway Street. This closure will allow the avenue to be host for the Dennis VanAlstine Memorial Car Show.
- 6:00 PM to 11:30 PM: Traffic traveling on East 2nd Street near Barker's Island may experience delays; this is to accommodate vehicles as they enter and exit Barkers Island for the activities there - especially after the fireworks show has ended. All traffic coming from the island after the fireworks show will only have the option to turn right (north) on to East 2nd Street; this is a similar arrangement to years past. This is the quickest and safest way to control the large amount of people exiting all at once. Drivers are directed to use the left turn lanes on to Catlin Avenue, Clough Avenue, or Grand Avenue if you need to travel back to the east or to the south.
In addition to on-duty officers with the Superior Police Department, you'll also encounter members of the Superior Police Auxiliary; they'll be in charge of securing intersections and the like; they'll be mostly visible in the bright yellow shirts.
