Top Quality Dog Food Recalled; Salmonella + Listeria Concerns
There is a recall effort involving a specific brand of dog food that's been announced by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Top Quality Dog Food is recalling their one-pound packages of "Beef HVM", due to the potential for Salmonella and Listeria contamination.
The dog food in question was distributed through mail order and with direct delivery from 7/27/21 to 8/2/1. The "Beef HVM" dog food product comes in a one-pound package and is marked with lot code number "071521" on the bottom right hand corner of the label.
At the present time, no illnesses have been reported due to the dog food in question. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration: "[t]he contamination was noted after a state surveillance sample revealed the presence of Salmonella, Listeria Monocytogenes in some one-pound packages of Beef HVM".
The manufacturer has quarantined the remaining dog food product in their possession. Additionally, they have discontinued the distribution of this batch of dog food while the U.S. FDA continues their investigation with the manufacturer; they're looking to identify the source of the contamination.
Top Quality has worked through their delivery system to identify those who made their purchase based on the lot number via mail order and delivery. However, if you still have this product in your possession, you're asked to discontinue its use.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is urging consumers that "[i]f you find the Beef HVM one-pound package that shows the
lot number 071521 in your possession,...[they] urge you to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund". You can also contact Top Quality Dog Food LLC directly during normal business hours - Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM - at 1-240-802-6601.
