The Belknap Plaza Has A New Tenant, And The Lot Is Packed
There used to be a Super One grocery store in the Belknap Plaza. It was a nice little store, but when they built the new Harbor View East End Super One, they closed the doors. For about 7 years the place sat vacant. So did the parking lot. Some locals hoped a another grocery store would come in, but that never happened.
In the years since that closed, a Dollar General opened up across the railroad tracks. College students used to walk to the Belknap Super One, but since that closed the news students that have come in have been making their grocery stops at Kwik Trip and Dollar General.
There had been rumors over the years that a Tractor Supply was moving in, or that it would be used as a storage area for a local business. Then a flurry of activity began this spring with contractors in and out. Asking around I was able to find out the new tenants was Essentia Health, but there were still no details about what exactly they planned to do with the space.
Then, this week, voila. There was a grand opening Monday of the new Belknap Essentia Health Pharmacy. It's address is listed as 204 Belknap Street Suite 100. It's exciting to see the space put to good use. That parking lot has been mostly empty except for busy nights at the Belknap Liquor & Lounge, and the occasional car show. The lot was so full when I went to the plaza today I had a hard time finding a spot.
Employees from other businesses are now having to park in the back, but I think everyone would agree that it's nice to see some more traffic in this plaza. I'm sure the Belknap Lounge will have a few more happy hour guests.
