Suspect Involved in Two Cloquet Shootings Wanted by Authorities
A suspect wanted in relation to two Cloquet shootings is on the loose and is wanted by authorities.
According to the Cloquet Police Department advisory:
Shortly after midnight on May 17, 2021, officers responded to 227 Scotty Drive in Cloquet for a report of a shooting. It was reported that several shots were fired at the residence.
Officers responded and confirmed the initial reports. No one was injured.
At approximately 1230, officers received a report of a second shooting, later determined to have occurred at 973 Ozhigaw Road in Cloquet.
The victim, a 27-year-old male from Cloquet, had a gunshot wound to the leg. The male was transferred to Essentia Hospital in Duluth.
The investigation is still ongoing, but it appears that both incidents are related. A suspect has been identified in connection with both shootings.
Authorities have issued an arrest warrant for 26-year-old Nicholas Joseph Ammesmaki for 1st Degree Assault-Great Bodily Harm and Possesses any type of firearm/ammo-Crime of Violence-ineligible.
As Monday night, Ammesmaki’s whereabouts are unknown. He was last seen leaving the scene in a 2003 silver Pontiac Bonneville with MN license DWL944.
The Cloquet Police Department is asking that if anyone has information as to where Ammesmaki is to call 911. Anonymous tips can be sent by texting TIP CLOQUETPD followed by your message to 888777.
It's important to note that the public is strongly advised not to approach Joseph Ammesmaki as he is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone who happens to spot Ammesmaki should simple follow the directives listed above.
