The recent announcement by Craig Sutherland that he's resigning his seat on the Superior City Council at the end of the month means that there'll be a vacancy to fill.  When the news broke, the communication said that the Superior City Council would make the determination on how they would proceed in filling the8th District seat at their next meeting.  We now know how that will occur.

The city is looking for a qualified candidate to assume the remainder of the term until the next scheduled election.  That election will happen in Superior in April 2022 - along with the "regular elections for odd-numbered city council seats".  In April, voters will then decide on a candidate who will fulfill a one-year term; that one-year term is designed to bring the district back to its normally-run election cycle.

The seat that Sutherland is vacating is the councilor for the 8th District.  That district "lies generally within the northwestern section of Billings Park with Winter Street serving as the northern boundary". As per city code, in order to be considered for the open seat applicants would need to live within that district.

Interested individuals who would like to fill the vacant seat until April need to submit an application to the city.  According to a post on the city website and on their social media, you can get the duties, responsibilities, and specific boundary lines by contacting the City Clerk's Office:  715-395-7200.

The deadline to submit your application is 4:30 PM on Wednesday, December 1, 2021.  "A resume can be included but is not required".
