Super One Foods Pledges $50K Match For Duluth Area Salvation Army Now Through Christmas Eve
You see them every time you go into the store; the familiar Salvation Army red kettles are commonplace around the Twin Ports area this time of year. The donation drive represents the "organization's largest and most important fundraising effort of the year".
And now - thanks to a Northland business - your donation will go a little further.
Miner's Incorporated - the family-owned company that operates Super One Foods stores throughout the region - has pledged a match to all red kettle donations received outside of their 13 area stores. The company will donate up to $50,000 in match funds for those donations that are received now through Christmas Eve.
Super One took to their social media to promote the effort:
The $50,000 pledge continues the companies longtime commitment to the Salvation Army. For the past twelve years - since 2010, the company has pledged matching donations of more than $575,000.
The pledge for matched funds comes during a year in which that the Salvation Army has seen a decrease in overall red kettle donations. That drop is probably tied in part to the sluggish economy and the rising cost of goods overall. That's a double-edged problem, as those same problems have seen a significant increase in the number of people seeking assistance from the Salvation Army.
