The Highway 53 Relocation Project has been big news the last three years or so.  Perhaps that's the reason why a lot of people aren't aware that a second highway on the Iron Range is scheduled to be relocated to make room for mining expansion.

County State Aid Highway 5 - near Chisholm - will be moved to make room for Hibbing Taconite's eastward expansion. To communicate the plan and solicit input, officials with St. Louis County will hold a public meeting on Monday, January 25 at the Chisholm Senior Center on main street.  The meeting will start at 6 PM, with engineers and representatives on hand from MNDOT, HibbTac, the City of Chisholm, and the counties Public Works Department.  Plans for the new route will be presented - including design information for the intersection at Highway 73.

If you go:

  • Where:  Chisholm Senior Center:  319 West Lake Street
  • When:  Monday, January 25 - 6 PM
