Crews with the Minnesota Department of Transportation will be making improvements to the intersection of Highway 53 and Haines Road beginning Monday, August 8.  Drivers and expect lane closures and may experience some delays during the course of the work.

MNDOT is making a few changes to the busy intersection.  Once it's done, motorists will see:

  • Traffic signal updates.  The new system will include pedestrian pushbuttons and audible beacons.
  • Reconstructed sidewalks.  The new concrete will include pedestrian accessible curb ramps.
  • Fiber Optic Network updates.  The infrastructure will be brought up to modern standards for St. Louis County.

Work at the intersection is expected to be complete by the end of September - weather permitting.
