A popular Northland winter tradition returns in 2023 and registration is open now. Saturday Morning at the Races is hosted by the Young Athletes Foundation, a Grandma's Marathon program whose mission is to "assist in the promotion, development, and growth of youth athletics and healthy lifestyles."

The Young Athletes Foundation partner with three area colleges in 2023 to host these free kids’ events throughout January and February, which provide an opportunity for our region’s children to continue living healthy and active lifestyles even through the year’s colder months.

The Saturday Morning at the Races series is free and open to all children ages 14 and under, with adaptive and wheelchair athlete opportunities available at all locations.

Here is the full 2023 Saturday Morning at the Races schedule:

  • January 7 - College of Saint Scholastica - Burns Wellness Commons – 1200 Kenwood Avenue, Duluth
  • January 21 - University of Minnesota Duluth - Ward Wells Fieldhouse – 1228 University Drive, Duluth
  • February 4 - University of Wisconsin Superior - Marcovich Wellness Center – 1810 Catlin Avenue, Superior

Each event will provide participants, based on age, the opportunity to complete either a 1/8-mile, a 1/4-mile, or a 1/2-mile course, and every child will also receive a T-shirt co-branded with that weekend’s college partner.

Races will start at 10:00 a.m. each week, and participants will be separated into different heats based on the number of kids in any specific age group.

You can register for all of the races online in advance. On-site registration will also be available each week starting at 9:00 a.m.
