Peter Frampton and Gregg Allman Announce Co-Headlining Tour
Peter Frampton and Gregg Allman will spend part of this summer on the road together.
The duo have announced a brief run of co-headlining dates that will keep them together during mid-to-late July, following Frampton's already-scheduled appearance at Allman's Laid Back Festival in Chicago. The newly added shows, four in all, begin July 19 and are currently scheduled to conclude a week later.
"I’ve been a huge Gregg Allman fan since first hearing the Brothers' live Fillmore album. So this is going be a dream tour," said Frampton in a news release. "I’ve had the honor of sitting in with the Allmans at their Beacon shows a couple of times and it just doesn’t get better than that."
Frampton's plans with Allman pad out an already busy summer schedule that's sandwiched with a pair of outings alongside Lynyrd Skynyrd. As previously reported, the Frampton/Skynyrd tour is booked for a dozen dates June and August — and they're just a small portion of his tour schedule for 2016, which begins in April.
Both Frampton and Allman will be on the road promoting relatively recent releases. Frampton's latest studio album, Acoustic Classics, arrived in February and finds him revisiting older songs in a more stripped-down format. Allman, meanwhile, released Low Country Blues in 2011 and followed it with a concert collection, Live: Back To Macon, GA, late last summer. If all goes according to plan, fans could hear more from him soon.
"I’m looking to do a record with Don Was in Muscle Shoals with my band this winter," Allman told the Wall Street Journal last year. "We’re sussing out tunes. I’ve always wanted to do a record with the title, All Compositions By…. But I don’t think I’m quite ready and I’m anxious to record with this band."
