A popular brand of bread and bun products are involved in a voluntary recall initiated out of "an abundance of caution".  King's Hawaiian has issued the recall on three of their products:  Pretzel Slider Buns, Pretzel Hamburger Buns, and Pretzel Bites. The bread products are sold nationally, including in Minnesota and Wisconsin.

According to details shared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the main concern is the potential for Cronobacter sakazakii and Clostridium botulinum contamination.  King's Hawaiian issued the recall of their products after an earlier recall was issued by Lyons Magnus over a product they manufacture that is used as an ingredient in the pretzel bread and bun products.

Here are the King's Hawaiian products being recalled:

  • King's Hawaiian Pretzel Hamburger Bun - UPC Code #73435000365, with a number of different Lot Codes
  • King's Hawaiian Pretzel Slider Bun - UPC Code #73435000372, with a number of different Lot Codes
  • King's Hawaiian Pretzel Bites - UPC Code #73425000525, with a number of different Lot Codes

No other King's Hawaiian products are involved in the recall effort - other than the three varieties specifically listed above.

As of this time, there have been no known medical issues or illness reports associated with the recalled product.  Once again, the recall effort has been issued over an abundance of caution, related to the recall on one of the ingredients of the Kings Hawaiian pretzel bun and bite products.

Consumers who have the recalled food products in their possession are urged not to eat them.  Dispose of them or call the company hotline to request a replacement product:  1-877-695-4227.
