Over 33 pounds, 38 inches long and bright orange this fish caught in the Brainerd Lakes Area is getting a close examination by experts.

According to KSTP, the fish is a bigmouth buffalo, the largest in the family of sucker fish and it was caught by Jason Fugate while doing some bow-fishing in April.

The breed of fish isn't that rare, they are found all over the state, it's the color and the age of the fish that have biologists excited. Alec Lackmann from the Biological Sciences department at NDSU says that this is one of the oldest bigmouth buffalo that he's seen.

Lackmann says that bigmouth buffalo can age well past 100-years-old and he thinks that this particular is very old and that would explain its bright orange color.
