Minnesota Ice Castles Won’t Return This Winter
COVID-19 has put plans for the 2020-2021 Minnesota Ice Castles, well, on ice. The organizers behind the annual winter attraction shared updated information on their website about scaled-back plans to operate in fewer locations during the pandemic.
Traditionally the company behind the attraction operates six locations across North America each winter, with two of them in the Upper Midwest. This year, that number is being cut in half. The Twin Cities has played host to one of the Ice Castles sites over the past 6 years, with New Brighton being the most recent location after being hosted in places like Stillwater, Excelsior, and New Brighton. This year, Minnesota will not host a ice castle from the company.
In a statement to BringMeTheNews, Ice Castles CEO Kyle Standifird shared the following:
We would like to thank everyone who has supported Ice Castles over the years by visiting our Minnesota location. Although we have decided not to bring Ice Castles back to the Twin Cities this winter, we look forward to returning to Minnesota in the future.
The scaled-back 2020-2021 winter season for the company will include four locations, with the closest being in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. That's a pretty sizable road trip, but closer than the other three locations in Colorado, New Hampshire, and Utah. They also mention a location in Edmonton, Alberta in Canada on their media page, but it is not currently listed on their website homepage.
With the Ice Castles CEO saying they look forward to returning to Minnesota, it is possible we could see a return as soon as the 2021-2022 season. I guess we'll just have to stay tuned.
