Work has already begun on a busy road in Hermantown - with a project that is expected to last the remainder of the summer.  The St. Louis County Public Works Department is on-site at Maple Grove Road - as part of a repaving and utility improvement project.

The work will start with the repaving of Maple Grove Road between Midway Road and Westberg Road; new curbs, gutters, and sidewalks will be added at the same time - with the portion of that job expected to last until about July 25.  At that time, Maple Grove Road will be a gravel surface as the work continues.

In addition to the new pavement and finishing touches, work crews will also make a variety of safety improvements for motorists and for pedestrians; specifically for pedestrians, the project design includes a new eight-foot wide sidewalk on  the south side of Maple Grove Road between Stebner Park and Stebner Road and a wider sidewalk in the north side of Maple Grove Road.

The total cost of the project and improvements is estimated near $4.5 million.  Ulland Brothers is the contractor of record.  Officials with St.Louis County expect the project to be complete by early November.  To learn more, click here.
