No one ever claimed criminals were smart.  An Illinois man was arrested last week and is facing charges after he attempted to enter the wrong Wisconsin hotel room door, while carrying a large amount of illegal drugs.

The incident happened in Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, a community located just to the south of Milwaukee, and north of Chicago, just across the state border.

According to the details of the charges, the authorities were called to the hotel on September 28 around 5:15 AM after guests suggested that a "man [was] trying to get into the wrong room".  That's what Mount Pleasant police officers discovered 32-year old Delondon M. Malone from Chicago at the scene.

The police incident report from the crime details that Malone wasn't a guest at the hotel and provided a fake name when he was asked in an attempt to "conceal his true identity".  A search of his body turned up "13 baggies of Fentanyl in his sweatshirt".  Later, a more detailed search of his vehicle turned up "approximately 100 small zip lock baggies that had 104 grams of fentanyl, 17 grams of Heroin, and 0.5 grams of cocaine".

It's unclear of what Malone's intentions were at the time of his arrest.  However, the Racine County Jail has booked him on charges of "Possession with Intent to Deliver/Manufacture Heroin and Fentanyl, Obstruction, and Criminal Damage to Property".

Officials with the Mount Pleasant Police Department shared the arrest report and details of the case on their Facebook page.

This is an ongoing investigation. Malone was transported from Mount Pleasant to the Racine County Jail awaiting sentencing.
