If you're heading down into Canal Park this week, be prepared for possible delays near the Aerial Lift Bridge as scheduled maintenance work begins on Monday.

The City of Duluth says that beginning Monday, January 25, traffic across the Aerial Lift Bridge will be limited to one lane to accommodate maintenance work being done in the shipping off-season.

According to The City:

Crews will be working in ten hours shifts to complete the work as soon as possible in an effort to minimize the amount of disruptions to neighboring communities. Traffic will be limited to one lane between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

The nature of the this project will require contractors to raise the bridge for twenty minutes at a time. After each twenty-minute lift, the bridge will be lowered, and traffic will be restored for fifteen to twenty minutes before lifting for another twenty minutes again. There will be traffic lights onsite to help control the flow of traffic.

The City says that while this work is being done, the portside sidewalk will be closed to pedestrian traffic and it will remain closed until work is complete. This is because there will be materials being stored on the sidewalk.

Everyone who has ever been "bridged" in Canal Park knows how frustrating it can be to be stuck in the traffic that goes along with it.  One cool thing that is available is the Duluth Harbor Cam which provides everyone the ability see if that bridge is lifted up or not at any time.
