Lunch with the History People takes an interesting turn this week. The guest speaker  Tony Dierckins is a local author, who has many books to his name. He only writes about the history of the area.

He has written about the canal, the lift bridge, downtown Duluth and now writes for the Zenith City Online website to share more history of the area. The site includes historical articles by Dierckins, along with submissions from other local historians and historical organizations.

Tony will bring his new book about what used to be City Hall, entitled “Duluth’s 1889 City Hall.” Now Tycoons Alehouse ,it was was built in 1889 and functioned as Duluth’s City Hall until 1928.

Tony will talk about the twelve mayors who served in this building and incorporates both the history of building and the rumors associated with it. Tony reveals whether the subbasement, now called the “Rathskeller”, was really a jail.
