ALLETE Inc. who owns the water service in Superior is looking to raise costs another 7.8% onto the already high rates for Superior.

According to the Wisconsin State Journal, ALLETE being privately owned also means that the company is looking to make a profit. ALLETE supplies our water, electricity, and natural gas services in Superior. The average quarterly bill was $152 in Superior for 15,000 gallons, compared to the statewide average of only $73.

ALLETE says the increase, that would be worth $2.7 million, will help cover costs of water main replacement along Belknap Street. New piping, pumps, purification equipment are talked about, but let’s not forget the company also has to make payments to their shareholders.
