Mother Nature finally woke up after taking the first half of winter off. On Friday night, cities across Minnesota received several inches of snow, creating difficult travel conditions.

The Minnesota State Patrol responded to over 400 crashes. Motorists are reminded to slow down and leave extra room between them and other vehicles to avoid winter crashes. Now, the National Weather Service is warning residents to prepare for another round of dangerous weather.

The Old Farmer’s Almanac had already started thinking about spring. They issued their annual long-term forecast predicting above-average temperatures and above-average precipitation.

We're going to have to wait for the warm-up though. The National Weather Service (NWS) is warning people to prepare for another round of winter weather.

The National Weather Service offices in La Crosse, the Twin Cities, and Duluth are warning of dangerous weather on Monday, February 17th, and Tuesday, February 18th.

The NWS in Duluth says NE Minnesota will experience brutal temps too. "Cold arctic temperatures return Sunday into the middle of next week, with daily highs generally in the single digits to around zero and lows in the teens to 20s below zero. An Extreme Cold Watch has been issued for areas most likely to see wind chills of -40F or colder Monday morning."

The NWS in La Crosse says, "Bitter cold weather arrives (in southeastern Minnesota, northeastern Iowa, and western Wisconsin) next week, with overnight and morning wind chills falling below -20°F for many locations. Tuesday is shaping up to be the coldest day of the stretch, with wind chills of -30°F to -40°F likely."
