Powerful Tornado And Causing Damage in Wisconsin and Illinois

You know when you see people posting things like "Prayers Wisconsin" and "Be Safe Wisconsin", you wish that a few more details were given because you have no idea what they are talking about?  That was me this afternoon.  It wasn't until later that night did I see videos pop up on X (Twitter) of a tornado that ripped through not just Wisconsin but touched down in Illinois as well.

A tornado in Wisconsin and Illinois on February 8th, 2024.  Wow!  History was made today because this was the first time that a tornado hit Wisconsin in February (on record).

As I was checking out the path of the storm, I realized that a lot of the towns the storm plowed through were very familiar names.  My husband's side of the family lives all over the state of Wisconsin, including some of the towns that were told to "seek shelter".

 

Based on past Radar velocity and Debri Ball between 5:45pm and 6:20pm ... Here is what appears to be the path of Wisconsin's first February Tornado on Record.

Some of the Damage From the Wisconsin and Illinois Tornado on February 8th, 2024

As the sun starts to rise on Friday, February 9th, more reports will most likely come in of damage from the path of this destructive storm.

For now, we do know of a few reports regarding the damage that happened.  Below is info posted by the Green County Sheriff's Office:

Rural Green County Storm Damage - 2/8/24
On Thursday, February 8 at approximately 5:30 PM the Green County Sheriff’s Office – Communication Center received several 911 calls reporting damage from the storm in the Town of Decatur. Albany Fire Department was in the area for storm watch and observed a funnel cloud and possible tornado touch down approximately 1.5 miles south of Village of Albany.
Deputies along with Albany Fire Department, Brodhead Fire Department, Alliant Energy and Green County Highway Department responded to the area. At this time (5) residences have been damaged, (2) mobile homes and several other structures. Alliant Energy is currently working to restore power. There are no injuries reported within Green County.
Green County Emergency Management has been monitoring the damage and will conduct necessarily follow up with property owners in the coming days. Property owners that were affected can contact Green County Emergency Management at (608)328-9416 or email gziegler@greensheriff.com
