Will Oppenheimer Be The Best Movie Of The Year?

As far as films nowadays go, there aren't that many I get overly excited for.  The most recent was John Wick: Chapter 4 and it of course did not disappoint.

When previews for Oppenheimer started rolling out, I knew this one was going to be worth seeing and it was added to my "can't wait for it" list.

After a week of being out, I finally made it to packed Duluth Marcus Theater on a Friday night.  With my Double Feature Whiskey Sour in hand, I settled in and sat through almost a half hour of previews.

Oppenheimer can't be described in one word or even a few.  It's a slow burn ride almost all of the way through with only a couple of really intense moments like building up to the testing of the bomb.

The Director, Christopher Nolan, expertly uses sound or an absence of it to intensify the emotions and feelings of the events.  Also used is black and white scenes mixed in with color as the story jumps around and this for me adds to the tone and overall feel of the story based on true events.

For me, it was easy to get sucked into, but if you're not wide awake and really paying attention, I could see it being easy to get a little lost.  So much is packed into the three-hour long film, but it didn't feel like it was that long.  I never once was bored or had a feeling of "just get on with it".

I highly suggest you catch Oppenheimer in the theaters while you can, but know, it's not an action movie which I heard others say they thought it was.  Again, it's a true slow burn telling an incredible story diving into the moral issues with building a weapon like they did.  I'll give it a solid 4 out of 5 stars, which is good considering some of the garbage Hollywood has churned out in recent years.

As a side note but in line with movies, if you want to try out acting and potentially be in a film that's being done in Duluth, there is a casting call looking for male and female actors worth checking out.
