Minnesota Tops List For Best Quality Of Life In America
This is a big win for Minnesota! A prominent new list just put Minnesota in the spotlight in a big way - and in a way that residents will be thrilled about.
The State Of The States executive summary was just released and it is pretty eye-opening, especially ahead of America's 250th anniversary. This was done to see where things stand now and to see what each state can improve on moving forward.

The State Of The Nation project put together this study by analyzing a ton of different factors: citizenship and democracy, economy, education, environment, mental and physical health and more.
The data they used spanned from 1990 to 2024 so they could look at long-term trends above all. When all is said and done, these factors contribute to an overall quality of life for each state and we shined bright against the rest.

What places Minnesota on top? It generally did the best across each of the metrics considered for this study, giving it the highest average in the country and helping it stand out from the rest.
Minnesota did especially well when it came to voter participation and labor force participation rate. We also did great in terms of the employment to population ratio, which is saying something in today's economy.

What do we have to work on? Above anything, it looks like we should put focus on depression in youth, as that is where we ranked the lowest. As for the state with the lowest quality of life at the moment, that would be Louisiana. Other southern states also ranked poorly here.
I think Minnesota definitely gets an interesting reputation of being cold or boring or whatever other stereotypes there are out there but there is something to be said about a quiet, calmer way of life.
