Well, we made it this far without a major cold blast but it looks like that is about to change! Some very cold temperatures are in the forecast for our neck of the woods later this week. At the time of writing, it looks like we are in for a few days of chilling cold.

It should be mentioned that we got our first real taste of winter right here in the Northland heading into the first weekend of the new year, with light accumulating snow and cooler temperatures than we'd seen up to that point. It still wasn't too bad, especially when you factor in a normal Minnesota winter.

When Will The Cold Air Move Into The Northland?

Now, we are going to get another big taste of winter as cold air is projected to move into the Northland! The National Weather Service of Duluth shared a few interesting tidbits about this cold blast, writing early Monday (January 8th) that we will see cold temperatures this weekend.

How Cold Will It Get In The Northland?

Wind chill values in the area will fall well below zero, with Duluth falling into the twenty-below wind chill category later in the weekend into Monday. This is a great time to make sure you have your winter emergency kit in your car.

How Long Will The Cold Blast Last?

While the National Weather Service of Duluth cautions locals to be cautious of these super cold temperatures this weekend, it looks like our cold blast will last longer than that! The National Weather Service of Duluth shared yet another infographic that offers us a glimpse into next week.

According to their post, the Northland has a pretty good chance of seeing well below average temperatures for the week of January 14th. Considering the fact that the average temperature at this time is in the mid to high teens, we are definitely going to get a big taste of winter to start the new year.
