I-35 Drainage Work To Start September 7, Lasts Through October

Get ready for some additional orange cones in an area that's already pretty congested with road work.  Officials with the Minnesota Department of Transportation are alerting the public to a two-month project along I-35 corridor in Duluth near the downtown area.  The work is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, September 7.

According to the details released by the Minnesota Department of Transportation, work crews will be on site working on drainage structure repairs on I-35 between 5th Avenue West and Lake Avenue.  Work will take place on both sides of the freeway - in both the north and the south-bound lanes.

The scope of the work will include daytime lane and shoulder closures in the zones where crews are present.  At some point down the line, the work will necessitate some night time closures on the south bound lanes.

A timeline for the project was released by MNDOT.  Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the Minnesota Department of Transportation aims to wrap up the work by the end of October.  However - similar to any road construction or maintenance project, a variety of unplanned circumstances can alter that schedule.  Weather can also play a role.

MNDOT officials urge drivers to use caution when driving through the work zone.  Slow down.  Be observant. Avoid distractions. Stay alert.  Be ready for changing conditions.
