We're about at the half-way point for the summer road construction season - but the workload shows no signs of letting up as a wide variety of projects continue to roll along.  One of those projects - along Highway 61 in Grand Marais is set to see a full detour set in place.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation is working to alert drivers that a full, complete detour for Highway 61 will be in place on County Road 7 starting Monday, August 3; this detour route now in place for all vehicles has already been established as the current truck detour.

According to information released by the Minnesota Department of Transportation, this particular detour will be in place for 24 calendar days while work crews replace the Fall River box culvert that's located just southwest of Grand Marais.  Local traffic will be able to access businesses and homes during this time period.

Along with the Fall River box culvert, other work on the project will continue.  MNDOT is performing a partial reconstruction in town between Broadway Avenue and the box culvert near My Sister's Place near 3rd Avenue East.  They'll also continue work on that box culvert, and provide a bituminous overlay from the Gunflint Trail heading northeast out of town.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation has shared that due to low attendance, they've suspended virtual public update meetings for this particular project.  Instead, look for weekly project status email updates; to sign up to receive these just click here.
