Work crews with the Minnesota Department of Transportation have begun a project to remove a railroad bridge in Carlton County.  The work on Highway 23 started on May 20 and is expected to last until sometime in July.

The scope of the project includes the complete removal of the Soo Line railroad bridge that crosses over Highway 23, in the southern part of Carlton County.  The bridge will not be replaced.

In order to facilitate the work, a detour has been established taking drivers off of the state highway onto County Highway 1 and County Highway 4. The detour is fully posted with signs alerting drivers on the route they need to follow.

Total cost for the work is $290,000.
