A road project that will stretch the whole summer will commence on Monday, May 13 - with a two week closure.  Highway 135 from Virginia to Gilbert - will see many improvements over the road construction season.  In order to facilitate a culvert replacement and grading work to add turn lanes to that section of the highway,  the road will be closed to traffic from May 13 to May 24 - weather permitting.  Drivers will utilize a detour that will take them along Highway 37 from Gilbert to Highway 53 in Eveleth.

After the initial phase of the road project is complete, work crews will start the remainder of the site work in earnest.  Additional shoulder closures will be in place from Gilbert to Biwabik for bridge rehabilitation work.  Starting in the middle of June, traffic will be reduced to one lane traffic - utilizing a signal system at each bridge until sometime in August.

The entire road project on Highway 135 should be wrapped up by the end of September.
