Grandma's Marathon Hires New Program Director

One of the biggest events in the Northland has added a new member of the team. Grandma's Marathon has hired a new program director, effective immediately.

The news was announced in a press release on Wednesday (October 28th), announcing the exciting news that the newest member of their team is Alivia Nelson.

The responsibilities of the program director include overseeing the event's sustainability initiative and volunteer coordination. The program director will also be in charge of kids programming throughout the course of the year. On top of these responsibilities, Nelson will also provide support to the marketing and administrative teams to help plan and put on different events for Grandma's Marathon and the Young Athletes Foundation.

Alivia is a Duluth native, which means she knows the importance of the event in the Twin Ports. She has been with the team since 2014 in different capacities, with a short break in 2019, and now it looks like she is continuing as part of the team!

This is great news after a devastating year for events in and around not only the Northland, but the entire country. In March, Grandma's Marathon organizers announced they would not be able to hold the event this year amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The good news is the race is already scheduled for next year! The 45th annual Grandma's Marathon will take place on the weekend of June 17th through the 19th. You can still register for the event here.

In September, a female runner was added to the iconic Grandma's Marathon logo. It was done in honor of the 45th anniversary of the race, as mentioned above.
