If you've noticed this ship anchored just outside the Duluth Harbor for a few days with smaller vessels coming and going from time to time, you're not alone. The Duluth News Tribune did a little investigating into why the Cornelia, a ship owned by German company MST, has been anchored out there for a handful of days. Of course, it isn't out of the ordinary to see ships anchored outside the harbor from time to time; but this time around, the ship involved appears to be part of an investigation.

According to what the DNT found out, the Cornelia took on a load of grain at the CHS Elevator in Superior early last week, and underwent normal federally mandated inspections as part of the loading process. Sources told the newspaper that everything about the inspections was "routine", and the ship departed the dock only to be stopped and held at anchor on Thursday.

The U.S. Coast Guard, who has been involved in the investigation, is reportedly working with other federal agencies on the case. At this point, the nature of the investigation is not being publicly disclosed. Ben Petok, the Director of Communications for the U.S. Attorney's District of Minnesota office, told the DNT that it is general practice not to disclose information about active investigations, however they did say that no individuals have been detained and there is "no threat to public safety".
