The Superior medical community just got a little bigger:  Officials with Essentia Health are set to open an Urgent Care unit at it's Superior Clinic location at the hospital on Tower Avenue.  The move provides additional health care options for residents of Superior.

Health care options for residents of Superior can sometimes be an issue - especially for the older population.  While there are plenty of services available across the bridge in Duluth, that access can sometimes be difficult and less convenient.,

The Urgent Care unit joins the other medical options available on the Tower Avenue campus.  While potential patients were always able to see a doctor via the Emergency unit and they were able to schedule appointments to see a doctor at the clinic, the Urgent Care provides for walk-in care for those who might have an immediate need to see a doctor, but that need isn't of an emergency-nature.

According to news sources, the Urgent Care unit will "have access to a lab and radiology on-site". The option is also perfect for those patients seeking treatment for ailments like "strep throat, minor injuries, or even skin infections."

The move has been a long-time coming according to Essentia Health-St. Mary's-Superior Clinic Administrator Kim Pearson:

"We are responding to a need for an Urgent Care that we've recognized within our community for some time.  Patients have been seeking this level of care for years, and we're pleased to be able to offer them this choice, in addition to E-visits, virtual visits on demand, in-person clinic appointments and the care we provide on an emergency basis in our hospital."

Here are the hours for the Urgent Care unit at Essentia Health-St. Mary's-Superior Clinic - located at 3500 Tower Avenue:

  • Monday & Friday:  12 Noon to 7:00 PM
  • Saturday & Sunday:  8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
