Wanted:  Someone to take over drivers license services in Ely.  According to our partners at the Northlands Newscenter, Saint Louis County has decided to suspend their operations in the city near the Boundary Waters - choosing to look for bids from the private sector.

By soliciting bids, the county hopes to maintain the convenience of having licensing services available in the community, albeit not provided by the government.

Explaining the changes, Commissioner Mike Forsman said, “We’re grateful that the State as well as the County understands the importance of having a drivers licensing service in the City of Ely. The restructure of responsibilities will ensure drivers license services for our residents and secures continued services for veterans in the Ely area.”

Interested parties are asked to contact the Minnesota Department of Public Safety prior to the end of the bidding process on June 21st.
