Be aware!  As we approach the end of the year - and with taxes on a lot of folks minds - those with criminal intent have started ramping up their actions.  The Duluth Police are warning residents about another round of phone scams in relation to the IRS - making their rounds in the Twin Ports.

As in the past, the criminals are preying on the innocence of their victims - scaring them with the threat of arrest for owing back taxes.  They then try to persuade the person on the line to give over bank account numbers or take out cash cards and provide the account numbers for those over the phone.

The IRS will never contact you via the telephone regarding your taxes without first sending a letter via the US Mail.  They also will never demand cash or iTunes cards as payment.

Be smart.  Be vigilant.
