TODAY Names Duluth One Of The Best Christmas Towns
Duluth is finally getting the credit we deserve! While winters may be long and cold here, we still have a lot to offer and that was put on national display with a new study that came out on Thursday (November 10th).
Other areas nearby have gotten some recognition lately, including Grand Marais. In October, Grand Marais was named one of the most beautiful places in the country, with a total list of fifty-five places.
The study was done by Architectural Digest, who crafted the list by looking at things like access to nature, the presence of historic districts and topography of the area. Grand Marais has all these things and more.
Duluth was recently named one of the best small college towns. Five Minnesota cities made the cut and Duluth was one of them. While that gave us some recognition, I prefer our newest title a little bit more!
Duluth was named one of the best Christmas towns in the entire country. The study was done by TODAY and only twenty-five cities made the cut. The list was in no special order but I personally think Duluth is number one.
So why did we make the cut? The article mentions Bentleyville! We all know what a big deal Bentleyville is, so much so that people come from all over to see the annual light show. In fact, over half the people that attend drive at least fifty-one miles to get there.
The article also mentions the North Shore Scenic Railroad, which allows you to trek along the shores of Lake Superior with a variety of different holiday-themed train rides. Needless to say, it is always a treat.
There are a bunch of other winter events that happen in Duluth that also likely helped it make the cut! This list includes, but is not limited to, the Lake Superior Ice Festival, the Cold Front Festival and the John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon.
There is definitely something to be said about all of this but what about the fact that a Christmas movie filmed here earlier this year? The film drops on Hulu on Thanksgiving. It is called Merry Kiss Cam.
The film is about two people who are put on the kiss cam at a hockey game and fall in love. The movie filmed in the summer but will take place in the winter, which is Hollywood movie magic. If we weren't so magical, why would someone shoot a Christmas movie here? It speaks for itself!
As for other magical winter towns, there are many! Both Stillwater and Winona were just named some of the most magical winter hot spots (no pun intended) by an online website. Only fifty cities across the country are included so it's pretty cool!
