It was a busy morning for Duluth firefighters.  An early morning blaze ignited in a Lakeside duplex just after midnight.

The first arriving engine company found heavy fire on the rear exterior of the house. The fire had extended up to the 2nd floor. Handlines were deployed to the rear of the duplex and the fire was knocked down. Both units of the duplex were occupied at the time of the fire and all occupants had exited the house prior to our arrival. Occupants were not allowed to remain in the house. There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters.

Twenty one firefighters responded from Headquarters, Lakeside, Woodland, and UMD Fire Stations.

The Duluth Fire Marshal's Office is currently investigating this fire. Damage is estimated to be in excess of $45,000. No further information is available at this time.
