Summer is a popular time for crudites and the veggie tray is an irresistible attraction on many party and dinner tables.  A popular brand of pre-cut veggie trays is being recalled due to contamination by a parasite  and Minnesota and Wisconsin are in the affected area.

The product in question is Del Monte brand fresh vegetables which are sold pre-cut in clear plastic trays.  As of this point more than 200 people have become sick with "explosive" diarrhea symptoms at best; seven have been hospitalized.  At its worst, the product has been blamed for weight loss, fever, stomach cramps, and other symptoms associated with the flu.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the parasite in question is cyclosporiasis.

News reports show that the product in question has affected people in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Iowa.  6, 12, and 28-ounce packages have a "Best If Enjoyed By” date of June 17, 2018.
